If the part of the gum around your teeth is red then there is a high chance that you have gingivitis. The cause of gingivitis is due to bad oral health habits. Not brushing your teeth at least twice a day. Not flossing or using mouthwash/flossing daily can make it worse as well.

Gingivitis is formed when bad oral hygiene creates plaque. As plaque starts to evolve into tartar it becomes harder to remove because it is now hardened. Tartar (also known as Gingiva) then inflames the area turning into gingivitis. Tartar makes the area more vulnerable to swelling and bleeding.

Let’s Prevent/Treat Gingivitis

If gingivitis is left untreated, it can cause many problems including gum disease and loss of tooth. The best way to prevent and treat gingivitis is through:

  • Good oral hygiene such as brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing your teeth, and using
  • Mouthwash
  • Visiting your dentist regularly. Dentists will check up on your oral health through x-rays,
  • examinations, and regular cleaning.
  • Maintaining good health practices. Eating food that do not have excess sugars or salt
  • Can stop gingivitis from occurring.
