Did you know that adults universally have 32 different permanent teeth? Each set is different from the other. There is no same set of teeth. This is very unique because just like a fingerprint, teeth are a part of your identity. In crime tv shows, they usually say they are unable to identify the man because the fire has ruined his teeth, thus erasing his (identification).
Development of baby teeth starts being developed 6-12 months after being born. By the age of 5 or 6, adult teeth start to replace the baby teeth. There are 32 permanent teeth total.
Adult teeth have for types:
Incisors – the entry point from food to mouth. There are eight incisors, four on the top and four on the bottom. Incisors provide the first line of offense toward eating food.
Cuspids – you might be familiar with cuspids. Cuspids are actually canine teeth. Just like any carnivore, we have two on the top and two on the bottom. Cuspids are very strong. They are used to seize and lacerate food.
Bicuspids – also known as premolars are used to seize and squash food. These molars are located right next to the cuspids. There are four on each side, eight total.
Molars – the finale of teeth. Molars are used to grind and crush food until it is ready to go down the digestive system. Molars have the largest surface compared to all other types of teeth. Wisdom tooth is also a molar. These are usually removed due to the fact that they take too much space.
